Each planet was designed and created to scale, utilizing Nasa data and images.  The AR application brought each planet to life and communicated the scale by having a rocket ship travel from each planet to Earth. Each model was made from a complex process of combining 3D printing and liquid injection molding, of which each mold was formed initially by 3D printing. Choosing which materials and types of plastics to use was a fun and exciting challenge and inspired a curiosity within me about material sciences.

Solar System Ultimate

Integrating AR and physical objects for education was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. Utilizing new technology to communicate space opportunities in entertaining and captivating ways was an interesting educational challenge itself. I was the primary designer and led the team to develop a product and an experience that was captivating, educational, but fun in a way that engages each user's curiosity about our solar system.

EARTH

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.."- Carl Sagan.

How do you make a product that informs, delights, entertains, and reminds people of the reality of our world and our home? The answer to me was to experience the world. Working with AstroReality to make EARTH be a visually rich and dynamic experience was a creative and informative journey.

  1. Save the Planet Campaign:

    • I designed a game that interacted with EARTH that would create opportunities for actual charitable actions to be done (Plant Trees) and for people and users to see how and what is needed to make a tangible difference towards preserving our beautiful planet.

  2. Flat Earth April Fools Day campaign.

    • To the surprise of many, some individuals feel that the earth is flat. This theory has resulted in many controversies, and often generates headlines. What I did for our April Fools Day campaign was to design a fake flat earth model that we pretended to ship. We donated the profits of that day to Boyan Slat's The Ocean Cleanup & the One Tree Planted organization. That day alone, we donated $10,000 and sold 500 Earth models.

AstroReality launched from a Kickstarter Campaign that was heavily focused on Science and Space Accuracy. While this appealed to a niche audience, I believed that the opportunity to present Science in a new way would provide profitable opportunities and create new ways of inspiring people to explore the universe.
